From sustainable stationery to sanitiser… Karst’s lending a hand in times of need!
About 3 years ago, two entrepreneurs, Jon Tse and Kevin Garcia built a sustainable stationery startup called Karst Stone Paper. 3 months ago, we would have told you all about their efforts to “inspire consumers to do more and create more, responsibly, through design-oriented & sustainable everyday tools”. But the story we want to tell you (today) is how Karst put down their pen’s and paper and got their hands dirty in the fight against COVID-19.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, Karst took an interesting yet innovative turn. The company joined forces with Australian organisation Rescue.support. Rescue is a personal-care supply-chain network which is founded by people whose incomes have been affected by this crisis. Together the sustainable startup and social change makers, made a liquid hand sanitiser which contains 70% alcohol, and meets the CDC’s standards.
When asked why sanitiser, Tse said, “the pre-coronavirus, Karst would not have made hand sanitiser, but with the rule book thrown out of the window, we felt strongly compelled to look at things a bit differently”.
When it comes to fighting a global crisis, we need all hands on deck. That means customers, companies and communities must work, side by side, (sanitised) hand in hand, and all stand together! So we were delighted to learn that the brand’s motivation to produce sanitiser was saying true to their mission of helping people and planet.
Yes, Karst makes and sells a good and effective product. But what make us Karst fans is that they launched a School Donation Program that provides schools and daycares with hand sanitiser.
Karst has surely gained the upper hand with customers everywhere. So we have to hand it to them for proving that not sticking by the book, in times of need, is exactly the kind of thinking we need to make the world better for all. We Si you!
